WHAT IS SUNLESS TANNING?

Sunless tanning is a popular way to enjoy the look of a tan without the need to go in the sun or tanning bed. Many years ago, the first spray tan introduced to the market contained dyes that left the skin orange and streaked. Today, thanks to modern technology, spray tans are the perfect solution for creating an instant, realistic tan without unsightly orange streaking.

HOW DO SPRAY TANS (DHA) WORK?

DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) is used as a spray tan agent. It does not produce a “real tan” by increasing skin melanin levels, but it can create the tan appearance by way of the development of a brown skin coloring. The action of DHA is limited to the upper layer of the skin and involves a reaction between DHA and skin proteins. DHA reacts with the amino acids and amino groups of the skin’s keratin-forming brown colored compounds. The process takes place in the outer layers of the epidermis.

BEFORE YOUR SUNLESS TAN

Exfoliate & Cleanse: Shower and exfoliate your face and body at least 6 hours before your appointment. Use a loofah or dry brush for best results.

Bare Skin Essentials: Arrive with clean, product-free skin. Avoid perfumes, deodorants, lotions, and makeup.

Timing Your Hair Removal: Waxing, laser hair removal, or other skin treatments should be completed 24 hours prior to your tan.

Shaving: Shave at least 24 hours before your appointment for optimal results.

Post-Tan Attire: Wear loose, dark clothing after your session. Avoid white.

AFTER YOUR SUNLESS TAN

Shower Timing: Avoid water (showers, sweating, swimming) for at least 6-8 hours with VersaSpa Pro and at least 12 hours after a Norvell Airbrush Tan. The longer you wait, the deeper the color. Gently pat or air dry after your first shower – no rubbing or exfoliating. 

Moisturize & Hydrate: Keep your tan glowing! Use a mineral oil and fragrance-free lotion and drink plenty of water. Hydrated skin means a longer-lasting tan.

Gentle Shaving: Shave with a three-blade razor in downward strokes. Use a light, natural, alcohol-free shaving substitute.

Skincare Considerations: Avoid toners, astringents, and certain acne treatments. Apply perfume to clothing or hair, not directly to skin. Steer clear of chlorine (pools, hot tubs) to preserve your tan.

Tan Longevity: Expect about 5-7 days of beautiful color. Our Sunless Pro products can help you achieve the best, longest-lasting results.
